Finding Your Way In A Wild New World – Discovery Group

Are you a Wayfinder?  If you had been born into another culture or society, would you have been the shaman, the medicine woman or man, a priest or priestess, the healer, or the wise one?  Do you long to move into that role and fulfill your purpose in your life, but you’re not quite sure what that would look like?

Martha Beck has written an amazing book called, “Finding Your Way in a Wild New World.”  In this 5-week program, we will read the book, then come together on 5 conference calls (90 minutes each) to share our experiences, encourage one another, and grow in the “technologies of magic.”  When the book came out a few years ago, I was one of about 300 people that joined Martha herself for a similar program, and it was life-changing.  During the session on Oneness, the second technology of magic, I bent a spoon.  Yes, as Martha guided those of us on the call, I became one with this beautiful spoon, asked it to play with me, showed it an image of bending, and felt it become warm and soft in my hands as it responded.

bent spoon - 2-12-2013 001I’ve been a spiritual seeker my whole life, and this particular book has been one of the most helpful resources I’ve encountered.  Martha has a PhD in sociology from Harvard, and she’s delved deep into the magic of many cultures and distilled it into something that is easy to understand.  She’s also incredibly witty and one of the freakin’ funniest authors around.  I can’t wait to share the joy of this book and this journey with you!

This Discovery Group will consist of 5 sessions in September 2015:  the 1st, the 8th, the 15th, the 22nd, and the 29th.  They will run from 6:00pm to 7:30pm Mountain Time, which hopefully makes a (sort of) reasonable start time for the other North American time zones.

The book is divided into four sections, one for each of the technologies of magic.  Before each class, you will be expected to read the section for that week’s discussion.  You will receive Martha Beck’s study guide with some thought-provoking questions to consider or perhaps journal about before that session.  The fifth class will be a wrap-up of our experiences.

All participants will also be added to a closed, private Facebook group, where you can share your experiences, ask questions, and interact with other participants as much and as deeply as you wish.

Fifty Bucks!

Yep, it’s just US$50 to join the fun!  I feel I’m meant to lead this program, and it really doesn’t matter to me how much money I make.  I’ll lead it if only one person signs up.  :-)  (Not that I’m expecting that, but just sayin’.)  You’ll need to purchase a copy of the book yourself, or get it out of the library.
